Drug Interactions:

Inhibits CYP2C8/9 (weak), 2C19 (weak), 2D6 (weak)

Thiazide diuretics, cholestyramine, colestipol, corticosteroids, mineral oil, phenytoin, barbiturates, digitalis glycosides, antacids (magnesium)

Dosage:

Adults: Oral: 400-1000 units/day

Patient Education:

Do not take more than the recommended amount. While taking this medication, your physician may want you to follow a special diet or take a calcium supplement. Follow this diet closely. Avoid taking magnesium supplements or magnesium containing antacids. Early symptoms of hypercalcemia include weakness, fatigue, somnolence, headache, anorexia, dry mouth, metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, cramps, diarrhea, muscle pain, bone pain, and irritability.

Nursing Implications:
