Use

Treatment of superficial and susceptible bacterial infections of the external auditory canal; for treatment of susceptible bacterial infections of mastoidectomy and fenestration cavities


Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation and/or aminoglycosides; herpes simplex, vaccinia, varicella


Warnings/Precautions

Prolonged treatment may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. Discontinue if irritation occurs. Use caution in longstanding otitis media or tympanic perforation; risk of ototoxicity is increased. Do not use for longer than 10 days.

Hydrocortisone: Substrate of CYP3A4 (minor); Induces CYP3A4 (weak)


Dosage

Otic:

Calibrated dropper:

Children: 4 drops in affected ear 3-4 times/day

Adults: 5 drops in affected ear 3-4 times/day

Dropper bottle:

Children: 3 drops in affected ear 3-4 times/day

Adults: 4 drops in affected ear 3-4 times/day

Note: Alternatively, a cotton wick may be inserted in the ear canal and saturated with suspension every 4 hours; wick should be replaced at least every 24 hours
