Bioterrorism

Bioterrorism is the use, or threatened use, of biological agents to promote or spread fear or intimidation upon an individual, group, or population as a whole for any number of reasons. Common biological agents of special concern include anthrax, botulism, plague and smallpox; the weaponization of these agents by terrorists may have serious and potentially life-threatening consequences to those affected/exposed.

The recent anthrax attacks in the United States have focused the world's attention on bioterrorism. The fact sheets included in this health guide -- consisting primarily of information from the Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization - are intended for general education purposes only. Information on biological weapons is constantly evolving, so be sure to check out our related links for the latest facts.
