Breast Center Achieves Center of Excellence Designation

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence - ACR

The University of Maryland Breast Center has been designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

“We are proud to be among an elite group of breast imaging centers that have achieved this designation.  The Center of Excellence designation reflects the importance we place on providing the highest quality of care to our patients," according to Deb Tobin, R.T.(R)(M), UMMC Breast Center manager.

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)

UMMC’s Breast Center is fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. The accreditation process consisted of evaluations by a team of board-certified physicians and medical physicists, conducted in each breast imaging technology. The findings certify that the Breast Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
