
Stass Named Director of Greenebaum Cancer Center
Dr. Stanford A. Stass has been named director of the Greenebaum Cancer Center. Stass, a professor of pathology, medicine and oncology at the School of Medicine, also directs the Laboratories of Pathology at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

"Dr. Stass has compiled an exceptional record of achievement as director of the Laboratories of Pathology," said Dr. Morton I. Rapoport, president and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical System. "His work in molecular diagnostics and genetics as it relates to cancer is well-known across the country."
"We have charged Dr. Stass to further establish the Greenebaum Cancer Center as a premier center for patient care, research, education and community outreach," said Dr. Donald E. Wilson, M.A.C.P., dean of the School of Medicine.
Before joining the Medical Center in 1994, Stass worked at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for 10 years, where he developed an internationally recognized program in laboratory hematology. He also served as professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University
of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center from 1984 to 1994. His work is an integral part of the Greenebaum Cancer Centers Translational Research Program, which emphasizes a bench-to-bedside approach to oncology research.
Stass is board-certified in pathology and laboratory hematology. He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia, completed an internship and residency at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego and a second residency at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. Prior to M.D. Anderson, he was at St. Judes Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
