What is Community Empowerment? | What is a Community Benefit? | Volunteerism at UMMC | Understanding the Diverse Needs of the Community
According to the World Health Organization, Community Empowerment "addresses the social, cultural, political, and economic determinants that underpin health and seeks to build partnerships with others to find solutions."
At the University of Maryland Medical Center, we support this definition of community empowerment in many ways. We provide health services to vulnerable or underserved populations, health education and screenings, financial and in-kind donations, career development, support groups, charitable care, and a variety of clinics to name a few. We are committed to making a positive, sustained difference in our community in Baltimore and beyond.
