All donors are welcome; you don't have to be a Medical Center employee to do your part there is a need for all types of blood 365 days of the year, and you can give blood once every 56 days.

Weight Watchers at Work Free Open House

UMMC Employees: Join us for a free Open House on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 1:00 pm. This will be hosted by a Weight Watchers leader who has successfully lost weight with Weight Watchers. Engage in fun activities, learn about the proven Weight Watchers approach, the new monthly pass and how you can attend At Work meetings.

The program is available by purchasing a monthly pass for $39.95 per month. The monthly pass system allows members to attend meetings at work at UMMC or near their home.  You do not need to wait for a session to begin, you can join at any time.  All Weight Watchers at Work meetings are scheduled in the lower level of the Paca Pratt building from 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm on Wednesdays. Weigh in begins at 12:45 pm prior to the meeting.

Free Breast Cancer Screenings

UniversityCare Family Health Centers

Two UniversityCare family health centers in West Baltimore are offering free breast cancer screening as part of the Baltimore City Cancer Program, an early-detection effort for uninsured, low-income city residents. UniversityCare officials urge eligible women to take advantage of the free clinical breast exams and mammograms.

The free screenings are available every Monday through Friday at two UniversityCare family health centers in West Baltimore:

The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center also offers free mammograms, breast exams and pap tests to women who reside in Baltimore City, who are 40 years of age and older and have no health insurance.

To enroll in the Baltimore City Cancer Program, city residents can call 410-328-4673 (HOPE).

Study Volunteers Needed

Do you have Cardiovascular Disease and High Cholesterol?

The University of Maryland Division of Cardiology is conducting a new research study, "AIM-HIGH." AIM-HIGH is a clinical trial that will test two different medications to treat high cholesterol. Volunteers will be compensated for their time.

Herbal Drug Study

The National Institutes of Health is sponsoring a trial of a natural treatment for enlarged prostates, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. The trial, called CAMUS, will test Saw Palmetto in men who have BPH. Office visits and study medications will be provided to patients at no cost. There is no financial incentive provided for participating in this study. If you are interested, contact The University of Maryland Prostate Center at 410-328-7742.
