In May 2010, UMMC broke ground for its new 140,000 square foot Shock Trauma Critical Care Tower, which will expand Shock Trauma, critical care and the adult and pediatric Emergency Departments. This construction project will infuse 300 construction jobs into the local Baltimore economy over the course of the project. After the new building is open, an additional 250 regular, full-time jobs will be added to the current 6,000+ employee team. In alignment with our position on diversity, 25 percent of the value of the design and construction contract will be placed with minority businesses.
