Endocrinology is the branch of medicine focused on hormones and the glands that produce them.

More than 50 hormones in the human body regulate an extensive range of functions, including metabolism, breathing, growth, reproduction, sensory perception, blood sugar, sleep and more.

At the University of Maryland Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Midtown Campus, our specialists see patients with diabetes as well as many other endocrine disorders. Some of the conditions they treat are:

  • Adrenal disorders, such as Addison's disease and Cushing's syndrome
  • Bone, calcium and other metabolic bone disorders
  • Tumors on endocrine glands
  • Hypogonadism (low sex hormones)
  • Thyroid diseases, such Graves' disease and Hashimoto's
  • Pituitary disorders
  • Obesity
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Unwanted, male-pattern hair growth in women
  • Enlarged male breast tissue

Our services also include a pediatric endocrinology practice.
