A Member of the University of Maryland Medical System | In Partnership with the University of Maryland School of Medicine
The University of Maryland Medical Center has recently transitioned from its relationship with Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Massachusetts to the University of Maryland Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology. See the Q&A below for more information on our name change.
What's changing?
Effective February 1, 2011 the Joslin Diabetes Center will change its name to the University of Maryland Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology. We are only changing our name; you will continue to get the same great care with the same providers.
Why did you change your name?
This name change reflects the many positive services we've added in recent years to our center. We also wanted our name to indicate that we are part of the University of Maryland Medical Center, and our patients have the benefit of all the amazing new treatments and care that goes on here everyday.
Will the staff change?
The staff and providers all remain the same.
What will be different for me?
You won't notice any differences. The staff and providers all remain the same. The hours and services will remain the same. We accept the same insurance. Think of it as a new name with the same great care.
Will the Center move?
No. Your expert physicians, educators, and staff are still located on the 6th floor of the University of Maryland Medical Center. Phone numbers remain the same.
Are you still part of Joslin of Boston?
No. We continue to be affiliated with the diabetes centers at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Maryland General Hospital, Shore Health System, and Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, which are all part of the University of Maryland Medical System. We are still an American Diabetes Association recognized educational program, and our providers continue to be accredited by the National Certification of Quality Assurance. None of our standards have changed.
Will my insurance still be accepted here? Will there be any changes in my co-pays?
We will still accept all the same insurance and there are no changes in co-pays for you.
What is Endocrinology?
Endocrinology involves the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting hormone levels and endocrine glands. Besides diabetes, endocrinologist take care of patients with thyroid, parathyroid, bone, pituitary, adrenal, pancreas, testicular, ovarian, and growth hormone disorders.
