Dr. Martin J. Edelman is Professor of
Medicine at the University of Maryland Greenebaum
Cancer Center. He received his medical degree
from the Albany Medical College and completed his
internship and residency in internal medicine and
a fellowship in mematology and oncology at the
Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
After leaving military service, Dr. Edelman
joined the faculty at the University of
California at Davis and the VA Northern California
Health Care System in 1990. He later became Chief
of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the
VA. While at Davis he was co-director of the
thoracic oncology program and developed several
trials in lung cancer. He also initiated trials
in genito-urinary malignancies, developmental
therapeutics, and supportive care. Dr. Edelman
was a member of the lung cancer and genito-urinary
committees of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG)
and has chaired two national trials in lung
cancer, both based on pilot studies performed
at UC Davis.
Dr. Edelman joined the University of Maryland
Greenebaum Cancer Center in 1999. He is a member
of the thoracic oncology program and currently
chairs several trials in thoracic malignancies.
He is institutional Principal Investigator for
the Cancer and Leukemia Group B at the University
of Maryland. He is also a member of the Respiratory
Core Committee of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B.
In addition to his work on clinical trials and
drug development, Dr. Edelman is active in
improving cancer care for veterans as a member
of the VA National Technical Advisory Group for
Oncology and has chaired the VA National
Oncology Conference for the past three years.
He is the author of over 70 articles, abstracts,
and book chapters.
