Aminocaproic Acid (a-mee-noe-ka-PROE-ik AS-id)

Treats a condition that causes you to bleed too much. Used to control bleeding after surgery, or to slow down bleeding during surgery in people who have bleeding problems.

When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

How to Use This Medicine:

Tablet, Liquid

• Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
• Measure the oral liquid medicine with a marked measuring spoon, oral syringe, or medicine cup.

If a dose is missed:

• This medicine needs to be given on a fixed schedule. If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, call your doctor or pharmacist for instructions.

How to Store and Dispose of This Medicine:

• Store the tablet at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Store the oral liquid at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze.
• Ask your pharmacist, doctor, or health caregiver about the best way to dispose of any outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.
• Keep all medicine away from children and never share your medicine with anyone.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

• Make sure your doctor knows if you are using a medicine to treat hemophilia such as Factor IX (Proplex® T, BeneFIX®), or activated prothrombin complex concentrate (FEIBA®, Autoplex® T).

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

• Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have hemophilia, anemia, or other problems with your blood. Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, liver disease, or kidney disease. Make sure your doctor knows if you have an allergy to any foods, preservatives, or dyes.
• Your doctor will need to check your blood at regular visits while you are using this medicine. Be sure to keep all appointments.
• Make sure any doctor or dentist who treats you knows that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect the results of certain medical tests.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
• Blood in your urine.
• Chest pain, shortness of breath, or coughing up blood.
• Confusion, weakness, and muscle twitching.
• Decrease in how much or how often you urinate.
• Slow or uneven heartbeat.
• Unusual bleeding or bruising.

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

• Blurry vision, watery eyes, or stuffy nose.
• Diarrhea.
• Dizziness or headache.
• Mild muscle pain, weakness, or fatigue.
• Nausea or vomiting.
• Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet.
