Definición:

Un ataque cardíaco es una emergencia médica. Llame al número local de emergencias (911 en los Estados Unidos) si cree que usted u otra persona está teniendo un ataque cardíaco.

La persona promedio espera tres horas antes de buscar ayuda para los síntomas de un ataque cardíaco y muchos de los pacientes de esta afección mueren antes de llegar a un hospital. Cuanto más rápido la persona llegue a la sala de emergencias, mayor será su probabilidad de sobrevivir. El tratamiento médico oportuno reduce la magnitud del daño al corazón.

Causas:
