Un nódulo pulmonar solitario se detecta generalmente en una radiografía de tórax. Si las radiografías seriadas de tórax (radiografías repetidas en un lapso de tiempo) muestran que el tamaño del nódulo no ha cambiado en el transcurso de dos años, se considera benigno. A menudo, se realiza una TC del tórax para evaluar el nódulo pulmonar solitario en detalle.
