Tratamiento:

El objetivo del tratamiento es controlar la infección, aunque muchos pacientes responden lentamente a éste. Es necesario un tratamiento prolongado con penicilina para curar la infección y se pueden utilizar antibióticos alternativos, tales como tetraciclinas, macrólidos o clindamicina, en pacientes que no puedan tomar penicilina.

Igualmente, es posible que sea necesaria la cirugía para drenar el líquido del área pulmonar y controlar la infección. 

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico es bueno después del tratamiento con antibióticos.

Complicaciones:

• Absceso cerebral
• Meningitis
• Osteomielitis  
• Empiema

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe buscar asistencia médica si se desarrollan síntomas de actinomicosis pulmonar, al igual que si los síntomas no mejoran con el tratamiento, si empeoran o si se presentan nuevos síntomas.
