Nocardiosis pulmonar - Overview

Nocardiosis del pulmón

Definición:

Es una infección del pulmón con la bacteria Nocardia asteroides.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La infección por Nocardia se desarrolla cuando uno inhala la bacteria. La infección produce síntomas similares a la neumonía y se puede diseminar a cualquier parte del cuerpo.

Las personas en mayor riesgo de contraer esta infección son las que tienen sistemas inmunitarios debilitados, lo cual incluye aquéllas que:

  • Han estado tomando esteroides u otros medicamentos que debilitan el sistema inmunitario por un tiempo prolongado.
  • Han tenido un trasplante de órganos.
  • Tienen VIH.

Otras personas que están en riesgo abarcan aquéllas que presentan problemas pulmonares crónicos relacionados con el tabaquismo, enfisema u otras infecciones como la tuberculosis.
