Derrame pleural

Definición:

Es una acumulación de líquido entre las capas de la membrana que recubre los pulmones y la cavidad torácica.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El cuerpo produce líquido pleural en pequeñas cantidades para lubricar las superficies de la pleura, la membrana delgada que recubre la cavidad torácica y rodea los pulmones. Un derrame pleural es una acumulación anormal de este líquido y se pueden presentar dos diferentes tipos de esta afección:

Derrames pleurales trasudativos: que son provocados frecuentemente por presión anormal en el pulmón, cuya causa más común es la insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva .
Derrames pleurales exudativos: se forman como resultado de una inflamación (hinchazón e irritación) de la pleura y a menudo son causados por enfermedad pulmonar. Los ejemplos abarcan: cáncer pulmonar , neumonía , tuberculosis y otras infecciones pulmonares, reacción a fármacos, asbestosis y sarcoidosis .
