Derrame pleural

Síntomas:

• Dificultad para respirar
• Dolor en el pecho , generalmente un dolor agudo que empeora con la tos o la respiración profunda
• Tos
• Hipo
• Respiración rápida

Puede ser asintomática.

Signos y exámenes:

Durante el examen físico, el médico ausculta los sonidos respiratorios del paciente con un estetoscopio y es posible que haga percusión en el pecho para escuchar la matidez.

Los siguientes exámenes ayudan a confirmar el diagnóstico:

• Radiografía de tórax
• Tomografía computarizada de tórax
• Ecografía del tórax
• Toracocentesis
• Análisis de líquido pleural

La causa y tipo del derrame pleural generalmente se determina por medio de una toracocentesis (se toma una muestra de líquido con una aguja insertada entre las costillas).
