Psitacosis - Tratamiento

Tratamiento:

La infección se trata con antibióticos tales como:

  • Tetraciclina
  • Doxiciclina
  • Eritromicina
  • Azitromicina
  • Rifampina

Nota: usualmente no se prescribe tetraciclina por vía oral a los niños hasta que los dientes permanentes hayan hecho erupción, ya que ésta puede decolorar de manera permanente la dentición que aún se está formando.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Se espera la recuperación completa.

Complicaciones:

  • Disminución de la función pulmonar como resultado de neumonía
  • Infección en la válvula cardíaca
  • Hepatitis (inflamación del hígado)
  • Compromiso del cerebro

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe buscar asistencia médica si se presentan los síntomas de la psitacosis y es necesario utilizar antibióticos para tratar la infección.
