Prevención:

No se debe fumar, dado que el tabaquismo lleva al desarrollo de muchas enfermedades pulmonares graves que pueden causar acidosis respiratoria.

El hecho de perder peso puede ayudar a prevenir el síndrome de hipoventilación por obesidad.

Se recomienda tener mucho cuidado con los sedantes y nunca combinar estos fármacos con alcohol.
