Neumotórax espontáneo

Definición:

Es la acumulación de aire o gases en el tórax que ocasiona un colapso pulmonar. Espontáneo significa que no se presenta lesión traumática en el tórax o en los pulmones.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Existen dos tipos de neumotórax espontáneo:

• Neumotórax espontáneo primario
• Neumotórax espontáneo secundario

El neumotórax espontáneo primario se presenta en personas sin enfermedad pulmonar y afecta principalmente a hombres altos y delgados entre 20 y 40 años de edad. Usualmente, la ruptura de una pequeña bolsa llena de aire o líquido en el pulmón (llamada bula ) ocasiona este tipo de neumotórax.

El neumotórax espontáneo secundario se presenta con más frecuencia con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC).

• Cáncer pulmonar
• Enfermedad pulmonar intersticial
