Tratamiento:

El tratamiento implica lavar la sustancia proteínica del pulmón (lavado pulmonar total) de vez en cuando. Ciertos pacientes con esta enfermedad pueden necesitar un trasplante de pulmón.

Las investigaciones han mostrado algún beneficio para un tratamiento experimental que utiliza un medicamento estimulante de la sangre, llamado factor estimulante de colonias de granulocitos y macrófagos (FEC-GM), el cual se sabe que falta en algunos pacientes con proteinosis alveolar.

Pronóstico:

Algunas personas con esta afección entran en remisión; otras desarrollan insuficiencia respiratoria que empeora y pueden necesitar un trasplante de pulmón. Hasta el 25% de las personas con esta afección muere al cabo de 5 años después de ser diagnosticado.

Cuándo contactar a un profesional médico:

Llame al médico si presenta síntomas respiratorios serios. La dificultad para respirar que empeora con el tiempo puede ser una señal de que la afección se está convirtiendo en una emergencia médica más grave.
