Tumor metastásico de la pleura

Tratamiento:

En general, los tumores pleurales no se pueden extirpar con cirugía. Se debe tratar el cáncer original (primario). Dependiendo del tipo de cáncer primario, la quimioterapia y la radioterapia pueden ser apropiadas.

El médico puede recomendarle un procedimiento llamado toracocentesis si usted tiene mucha acumulación de líquido alrededor de los pulmones y tiene dificultad para respirar o niveles bajos de oxígeno en la sangre. Con este procedimiento, se extrae líquido y se permite que el pulmón se expanda más, facilitando la respiración.

Para evitar que el líquido se acumule de nuevo, se puede poner un medicamento directamente en el espacio torácico a través de una sonda, llamada catéter, o el cirujano puede rociar un medicamento o talco sobre la superficie pulmonar durante el procedimiento, para eliminar el líquido que rodea los pulmones.

El estrés causado por una enfermedad se puede aliviar uniéndose a un grupo de apoyo donde los miembros comparten experiencias y problemas en común.

La tasa de supervivencia a cinco años (número de personas que viven más de cinco años después del diagnóstico) es menos del 25% para las personas con tumores pleurales que se han diseminado.
