Bronquitis crónica
Definición:
Es una inflamación de las vÃas aéreas principales en los pulmones que continúa durante un perÃodo prolongado o que reaparece en forma repetitiva.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
El hábito de fumar es la causa principal de la bronquitis crónica. Cuanto más una persona, mayor será la probabilidad de que sufra de bronquitis y de que ésta sea severa.
El hecho de ser fumador pasivo también puede ocasionar bronquitis crónica, la cual empeora a causa de la contaminación ambiental, una infección y las alergias.
La bronquitis crónica es una forma de enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica y junto con el enfisema y el asma como grupo son una causa importante de muerte en los Estados Unidos.
