Prevención:

La prevención de la trombosis venosa profunda (TVP) entre los pacientes que están en riesgo es muy importante. El hecho de caminar y permanecer activo tan pronto como sea posible, después de una cirugía o durante una afección prolongada, puede reducir el riesgo de sufrir embolia pulmonar. La terapia con heparina (bajas dosis de heparina inyectadas debajo de la piel) se puede emplear en aquellas personas que han tenido un reposo prolongado en cama. Otras medidas de prevención incluyen el uso de medias de compresión (medias elásticas que se ajustan alrededor de las piernas y ayudan a la circulación de la sangre).
