Síndrome de Caplan

Definición:

Es la inflamación y cicatrización de los pulmones en personas con artritis reumatoidea que han estado expuestas al polvo del carbón.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La inhalación de polvo de carbón causa inflamación y cicatrización del pulmón. Las personas con artritis reumatoidea están más propensas a desarrollar áreas más grandes de inflamación y cicatrización en respuesta a este tipo de polvo. Este síndrome es muy poco común en los Estados Unidos.
