Neumonía

Síntomas:

Los principales síntomas de neumonía son:

• Tos con mucosidad amarillenta o verdosa; ocasionalmente se presenta esputo con sangre
• Fiebre con escalofríos y temblor
• Dolor en el pecho agudo o punzante que empeora con la respiración profunda o la tos
• Respiración rápida y superficial
• Dificultad para respirar

Los síntomas adicionales abarcan:

• Dolor de cabeza
• Sudoración excesiva y piel pegajosa
• Pérdida del apetito
• Fatiga excesiva
• Confusión , especialmente en las personas de edad

Signos y exámenes:

Si la persona tiene neumonía, es posible que esté haciendo un esfuerzo para respirar o que esté respirando rápido. El examen de tórax con el estetoscopio permite escuchar las crepitaciones. También se pueden escuchar otros sonidos respiratorios anormales a través del estetoscopio o a través de una percusión (dar golpecitos con los dedos sobre la pared torácica).

Los siguientes exámenes pueden mostrar signos de neumonía:

• Radiografía de tórax
• Tinción de Gram y cultivo de esputo para buscar el organismo causante de los síntomas
• CSC para verificar el conteo de glóbulos blancos que, de ser alto, sugiere la presencia de una infección bacteriana
• Gasometría arterial para verificar qué tan bien se está oxigenando la sangre
• TAC de tórax
• Cultivo de líquido pleural si hay presencia de líquido en el espacio que rodea los pulmones
