Tratamiento:

El tratamiento implica la extirpación completa del tejido anormal, cuando es posible. Sin embargo, los higromas quísticos con frecuencia invaden otras estructuras del cuello, haciendo imposible su extirpación. En estos casos, se ha intentado con otros tratamientos tales como la inyección de agentes esclerosantes, esteroides, agentes quimioterapéuticos y radioterapia, pero sin mucho éxito.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico es bueno cuando se puede extirpar totalmente el tejido anormal, pero en los casos en que esta extirpación completa no es posible debido al compromiso de vasos sanguíneos y nervios cercanos, es común que se presente la reaparición del higroma.

Complicaciones:

Sangrado, infección, reaparición del higroma quístico y daño a las estructuras del cuello causados por la cirugía.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe llamar al médico si se nota cualquier tumoración en el cuello en un niño o en un adulto.
