Tratamiento:

El tratamiento está encaminado hacia la causa del problema y puede consistir en:

Antibióticos
Medicamentos antinflamatorios para reducir la hinchazón
Diuréticos para eliminar el exceso de agua del cuerpo
Dieta baja en sal
Reducción de la actividad

Si el músculo cardíaco está muy débil, el médico recetará medicamentos para tratar la insuficiencia cardíaca. Los ritmos cardíacos anormales pueden requerir el uso de medicamentos adicionales, un marcapasos o un desfibrilador cardioversor implantable. Si se presenta un coágulo sanguíneo en una cámara del corazón, también se administra un anticoagulante.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico varía y depende de la causa del problema y de la salud general de la persona. Algunas personas se pueden recuperar por completo, mientras que otras pueden padecer insuficiencia cardíaca permanente.
