Prevención:

Se deben seguir las recomendaciones médicas para el tratamiento de las afecciones que puedan causar insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva. Algunas de ellas son:

  • Tratar la presión sanguínea alta con dieta, ejercicio y medicamentos si es necesario
  • Tratar el colesterol alto con dieta, ejercicio y medicamentos si es necesario
  • No fumar
  • Evitar el alcohol
  • Tomar un inhibidor ECA si se tiene cardiopatía, diabetes o presión sanguínea alta
  • Tratar las arritmias (ritmos cardíacos anormales) y mantener la frecuencia cardíaca controlada
  • Tratar una enfermedad subyacente de la tiroides

De la misma manera, es necesario considerar los siguientes hábitos en el estilo de vida, especialmente si se tienen fuertes antecedentes familiares de insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva:

  • Reducir la ingesta de sal
