El médico utilizará un estetoscopio para escuchar el corazón y los pulmones. Se puede presentar un sonido de fricción (llamado roce pericárdico, que no se debe confundir con un soplo). Los ruidos cardíacos en general pueden ser débiles o escucharse distantes.
Una acumulación de líquido en la cubierta del corazón o el espacio alrededor de los pulmones (derrame pericárdico) no es común después de un ataque cardíaco, pero a menudo sí ocurre en algunos pacientes con el síndrome de Dressler.
