Prevención:

Las infecciones por estreptococos deben tratarse oportunamente para prevenir la fiebre reumática, que puede causar estenosis aórtica. Esta afección en sí a menudo no se puede prevenir, pero sí algunas de sus complicaciones.

Se debe informar al médico o al odontólogo acerca de cualquier antecedente de valvulopatía cardíaca antes del tratamiento de cualquier afección. Cualquier procedimiento dental, incluyendo una limpieza, así como cualquier procedimiento invasivo, puede introducir bacterias en el torrente sanguíneo, las cuales pueden infectar una válvula debilitada, provocando una endocarditis.

Se deben seguir las recomendaciones del médico para el tratamiento de afecciones que puedan causar valvulopatía. Asimismo, notificar al médico de cualquier antecedente familiar de cardiopatías congénitas.
