Pericarditis
Definición:
Es una enfermedad causada por la inflamación del pericardio, la cubierta en forma de saco del corazón.
Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
La pericarditis generalmente es una complicación de infecciones virales, más comúnmente por ecovirus o virus coxsackie y, con menos frecuencia, causada por influenza o infección por VIH. Las infecciones bacterianas pueden conducir a pericarditis bacteriana (también llamada pericarditis purulenta). Igualmente, algunas infecciones micóticas también pueden producir pericarditis.
Además, la pericarditis también puede estar asociada con enfermedades sistémicas como cáncer, insuficiencia renal , leucemia, infecciones por VIH, SIDA , enfermedades autoinmunes , tuberculosis , fiebre reumática e hipotiroidismo.
Los trastornos cardÃacos que pueden causar pericarditis son, entre otros: ataques cardÃacos (ver pericarditis post IM ) y miocarditis . Algunas veces, tratamientos como la radioterapia del tórax y el uso de inmunosupresores también inducen esta condición.
La pericarditis puede ser el resultado de una lesión (incluyendo una cirugÃa) o trauma en el tórax, el esófago o el corazón.
Con mucha frecuencia, se desconoce la causa de la pericarditis, en cuyo caso recibe el nombre de pericarditis idiopática.
La pericarditis ataca con más frecuencia a los hombres entre los 20 y 50 años de edad, usualmente después de que se presentan infecciones respiratorias . También se puede presentar en niños, donde es más comúnmente causada por el adenovirus o virus coxsackie.
