Nota: los síntomas pueden aparecer y desaparecer súbitamente y pueden durar desde unos pocos minutos o varias horas. Una TSPV que dura más de la mitad del día se considera una TSVP permanente o incesante.

Signos y exámenes:

Un examen durante un episodio de taquicardia supraventricular paroxística mostrará una frecuencia cardíaca rápida.

La frecuencia cardíaca puede ser de 150 a 250 latidos por minuto. En los niños la frecuencia cardíaca tiende a ser muy alta y se pueden presentar signos de mala circulación como mareo. Entre los episodios de taquicardia supraventricular paroxística, la frecuencia cardíaca es normal (60 a 100 latidos por minuto).

Un ECG durante los síntomas muestra taquicardia supraventricular paroxística. A menudo es necesario un estudio electrofisiológico (EPS, por sus siglas en inglés) para un diagnóstico preciso y para recomendar el mejor tratamiento.

Debido a la naturaleza esporádica de la taquicardia supraventricular paroxística, su diagnóstico puede necesitar un monitoreo Holter de 24 horas. Para períodos de control más largos, se utiliza un "registrador implantable subcutáneo" (con memoria de computadora).
