Síntomas:

Las úlceras pequeñas pueden no causar ningún síntoma. Algunas úlceras pueden causar sangrado serio.

El dolor abdominal es un síntoma común, pero no siempre se presenta, y puede diferir mucho de una persona a otra.

  • Sensación de llenura: incapaz de beber mucho líquido
  • Hambre y una sensación de vacío en el estómago, a menudo de 1 a 3 horas después de una comida
  • Náuseas leves (el vómito puede aliviar el síntoma)
  • Dolor o molestia en la parte superior del abdomen
  • Dolor abdominal alto que lo despierta en la noche

Pruebas y exámenes:

Para diagnosticar una úlcera, el médico ordenará uno de los siguientes exámenes:

  • Una esofagogastroduodenoscopia (EGD) es un examen especial llevado a cabo por un gastroenterólogo, en el cual se inserta un tubo delgado con una cámara en su extremo a través de la boca hasta el tracto gastrointestinal para mirar el estómago y el intestino delgado. Durante el procedimiento, el médico puede tomar una biopsia de la pared del estómago para analizar si hay H. pylori.
  • El tránsito esofagogastroduodenal consiste en una serie de radiografías que se toman después de que uno ingiere una sustancia espesa llamada bario.
