Enfermedad de Whipple

Definición:

Es una afección poco común en la cual una infección hace que el intestino no pueda absorber los nutrientes en forma apropiada. Esto se denomina malabsorción .

La causa probable de la enfermedad de Whipple es una infección debida a Tropheryma whippelii . La enfermedad afecta principalmente a hombres de mediana edad de raza blanca y la aparición de los síntomas es generalmente lenta. Si no se trata, puede ser mortal.

La enfermedad de Whipple es extremadamente rara y los factores de riesgo se desconocen.
