Definición:

Es una rara afección que le impide al intestino delgado absorber los nutrientes en forma apropiada. Esto se denomina malabsorción.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La causa probable de la enfermedad de Whipple es una infección debida a Tropheryma whippelii. La enfermedad afecta principalmente a hombres de mediana edad.

La enfermedad de Whipple es extremadamente rara y los factores de riesgo se desconocen.
