Las úlceras gástricas no cancerosas (benignas) son causadas por un desequilibrio entre el ácido estomacal, una enzima llamada pepsina y las defensas naturales del revestimiento del estómago. Este desequilibrio lleva a que se presente inflamación, que puede empeorar por el uso de aspirina y de medicamentos antiinflamatorios no esteroides (AINES), como el ibuprofeno.
