Tratamiento:

El tratamiento es el mismo que se aplica para la hepatitis B. Ver el artículo sobre la hepatitis B.

Las personas con infección por VHD prolongada pueden recibir un medicamento llamado interferón alfa o un trasplante de hígado.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Las personas con una infección aguda por el VHD generalmente mejoran en un período de 2 a 3 semanas y los niveles de las enzimas hepáticas regresan a su condición normal en un lapso de 16 semanas.

Alrededor del 10% de las personas infectadas puede desarrollar inflamación del hígado (hepatitis) crónica o prolongada.

Complicaciones:

  • Hepatitis crónica activa
  • Hepatitis fulminante
