Colecistitis crónica
Definición:
Es la inflamación e irritación prolongada de la vesÃcula biliar.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
La colecistitis crónica es causada por ataques leves y repetitivos de colecistitis aguda que producen un engrosamiento de las paredes de la vesÃcula biliar, la cual comienza a encogerse y finalmente pierde la capacidad para desempeñar su función de concentrar y almacenar la bilis . La ingestión de alimentos grasos puede empeorar los sÃntomas de la colecistitis, debido a que la bilis es necesaria para digerir dichos alimentos.
La enfermedad es más frecuente en mujeres que en hombres y la incidencia aumenta después de los 40 años. Tener antecedentes de colecistitis aguda y la presencia de cálculos son factores de riesgo para esta enfermedad.
