Enteritis por Campylobacter - Overview

Definición:

Es una infección del intestino delgado con la bacteria Campylobacter jejuni.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La enteritis por Campylobacter es una causa común de infección intestinal y es también causa de uno de los muchos tipos de la diarrea del viajero.

Las personas generalmente se infectan al comer o beber agua o alimentos contaminados, a menudo carne de aves cruda, productos agrícolas frescos o leche sin pasteurizar. Una persona también se puede infectar por el contacto cercano con personas o animales enfermos. Los síntomas comienzan de 2 a 4 días después de la exposición y generalmente duran una semana.

Los factores de riesgo pueden ser una infección reciente en la familia con C. jejuni, el consumo reciente de alimentos mal preparados o un viaje reciente a un área donde la limpieza o las condiciones sanitarias son deficientes.
