Definición:

La gastritis crónica es una inflamación del revestimiento del estómago que se presenta gradualmente y que persiste durante un tiempo prolongado.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La gastritis crónica puede ser ocasionada por la irritación prolongada debido al uso de medicamentos antiinflamatorios no esteroideos (AINES), infección con la bacteria Helicobacter pylori , anemia perniciosa (un trastorno autoinmune), degeneración del revestimiento del estómago por la edad o por reflujo biliar crónico.

Muchos individuos que padecen gastritis crónica no presentan síntomas de esta condición.
