Cáncer del páncreas; Cáncer pancreático

Definición:

Es un cáncer del páncreas.

Causas:

El páncreas es un órgano grande que se encuentra detrás del estómago. Produce y secreta enzimas que ayudan al cuerpo a absorber los alimentos, sobre todo las grasas. Las hormonas llamadas insulina y glucagón también son producidas en el páncreas. Estas hormonas le ayudan al cuerpo a controlar los niveles de glucemia.

La causa exacta del cáncer pancreático se desconoce, pero es más común en fumadores y en personas obesas. Este cáncer es ligeramente más común en las mujeres que en los hombres y el riesgo se incrementa con la edad.

Un pequeño número de casos está relacionado con síndromes genéticos que se transmiten de padres a hijos.
