Colitis isquémica
Definición:
Es un área de inflamación (irritación e hinchazón) causada por interferencia con el flujo sanguÃneo al colon (intestino grueso).

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
La interferencia del flujo sanguÃneo hacia el colon es la causa de la colitis isquémica, un trastorno que afecta principalmente a personas mayores de 50 años, muchas de las cuales tienen antecedentes de enfermedad vascular periférica . Otros factores de riesgo son:
- CirugÃa aórtica previa con daño involuntario a la arteria que irriga el colon
- Antecedentes de accidente cerebrovascular
- Presión sanguÃnea baja
- Insuficiencia cardÃaca  congestiva
- Diabetes Â
- Exposición abdominal a la radiación
