Tratamiento:

El tratamiento consiste en una cirugía o en un drenaje percutáneo (con una aguja a través de la piel) del absceso y esto va acompañado de una terapia prolongada con antibióticos. Algunas veces, los antibióticos solos pueden curar la infección.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El índice de mortalidad es de 10 a 30% en pacientes tratados y la tasa es aún mayor en pacientes con abscesos múltiples.

Complicaciones:

Se puede desarrollar una sepsis potencialmente mortal.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe buscar asistencia médica si se presenta cualquier síntoma de este trastorno.

También si se presenta dolor abdominal severo, confusión o disminución del estado de conciencia , fiebre alta y persistente u otros síntomas nuevos durante o después del tratamiento.
