Un examen radiográfico del tracto GI superior o una esofagografÃa con bario puede mostrar ausencia de peristalsis, un esófago agrandado y un estrechamiento en la parte baja del esófago. El diagnóstico se confirma por medio de una manometrÃa esofágica y el examen fÃsico puede mostrar signos de anemia.
