Laceraciones mucosas de la unión cardioesofágica
El desgarro de Mallory-Weiss ocurre en la membrana mucosa de la parte inferior del esófago o la parte superior del estómago, cerca de donde éstos se juntan. El desgarro puede sangrar.
Los desgarros de Mallory-Weiss generalmente son causados por vómitos o tos fuertes o prolongados. También pueden ser causados por convulsiones epilépticas o cualquier circunstancia que aumente la presión dentro del abdomen.
Cualquier afección que lleve a que se presenten ataques violentos y prolongados de tos o vómitos puede causar estos desgarros.
