Las personas con síntomas de reflujo gastroesofágico grave deben buscar atención médica.
Los exámenes con EGD (esofagogastroduodenoscopia) y biopsia en personas con síndrome de Barrett pueden llevar a una detección temprana del cáncer y a mejorar la supervivencia. Las personas a quienes se les ha diagnosticado el síndrome de Barrett deben contemplar la posibilidad de hacerse chequeos regulares en busca de cáncer del esófago.
