Prevención:

Evite el contacto con la sangre o los hemoderivados siempre que sea posible. Los trabajadores de la salud deben tomar precauciones al manipular sangre y líquidos corporales.

No se inyecte drogas ilícitas y, en especial, no comparta agujas con otra persona. Tenga precaución al hacerse tatuajes y perforaciones corporales (pirsin).

La transmisión sexual es muy baja entre parejas monógamas y estables. El compañero sexual debe ser examinado en busca de hepatitis C. En caso de ser negativo, las recomendaciones actuales son no hacer cambios en las prácticas sexuales.

Los individuos que tienen sexo por fuera de una relación monógama deben practicar comportamientos sexuales más seguros para evitar la hepatitis C, así como enfermedades de transmisión sexual, incluyendo el VIH y la hepatitis B.

Actualmente no hay una vacuna para la hepatitis C.
