Algunos pacientes desarrollan infecciones persistentes de las vías biliares. Asimismo, los pacientes pueden tener enfermedad hepática crónica, como ascitis y várices.
Las personas con esta afección tienen un mayor riesgo de desarrollar cáncer de las vías biliares (colangiocarcinoma) y deben someterse a un chequeo regular, por lo general cada año, con gammagrafías del hígado y exámenes de sangre.
