Giardiasis

Síntomas:

• Diarrea
• Dolor abdominal
• Gases o distensión abdominal
• Abdomen inflamado o distendido
• Náuseas
• Pérdida del apetito
• Vómitos
• Dolor de cabeza
• Fiebre baja

El período comprendido entre el momento de resultar infectado y el desarrollo de los síntomas es de 7 a 14 días y la fase aguda dura de 2 a 4 semanas.

Signos y exámenes:

Los exámenes que se pueden hacer abarcan:

• Enzimoinmunoanálisis (EIA) para verificar la presencia de Giardia
• Biopsia del intestino delgado
• Examen de parásitos y huevos en las heces
• Examen del cordón (rara vez se realiza)

Esta enfermedad puede también alterar los resultados de los siguientes exámenes:

• Absorción de la D-xilosa
• Frotis de biopsia de tejido del intestino delgado
• Frotis de aspirado de líquido duodenal
